Some people are so involved in being spectators of professional sports that they actually spend money to travel to the various cities where their favourite team is playing – no matter what it costs. Don’t let it be Super Bowl time or some kind championship game because the world as they know it comes to a
complete stand still until it is all over.
The amazing thing about all of this is that some sports – like boxing and tennis - involve only two participators yet the spectators are equal to or greater in number than the spectators of a basketball or football game. What is even more amazing is that at the end of the day, the only persons who receive
any tangible reward are the participators.
We have this same scenario in the family of God. There are many who have given their lives to Christ but they are spectators in God’s plan for mankind. They don’t participate in their own spiritual development by having private Bible study and times of worship at home and when they come to church it is only
to watch the participators as they worship God and enter His presence and then find fault with them. As a result they become a hindrance to themselves and to the work of God.
The one who gets the prize is not the one who watches from the sidelines but the one who participates in the game. At the end of time if you want to be rewarded you must be a participator and not a spectator in the work of God.
